Our unique Jazz Improvisation Lessons in Ottawa help students start improvising quickly - in any style of music they choose! A private or semi-private lesson format allows for several students to be grouped together based on instrumentation and musical ability. This provides students with the optimal mix of individual attention within a comfortable and fun musical group environment.

Students are provided with an improvisation course book and several CDs worth of listening examples and play-along tracks. At the end of the term, students are given the option to record their own demo CD in Ascension Sound’s professional recording studio. What better way for students to show off their progress.

Our Improvisation Lessons are designed for students who already have the basics of playing an instrument down. The base for improvisation instruction is jazz, which provides the most comprehensive foundation for improvising in any style of music. Other types of music including blues, pop, rock, folk, country, and classical are also incorporated to help students transfer their newfound skills to other genres.
Along with improvisation, the following areas are taught: general music theory, ear training, melody/harmony relationships, chord/scale relationships, song arranging/composing, and general musicality. Throughout, the emphasis is on listening, playing, and having fun!
